Magincia was the original city of
Humility, but only a few years after foundation, the inhabitants fell prey to
Pride, and transformed their city into a sin-hole of luxury and decadence, with vast gardens and marble palaces, falling away from the path of Virtue. The end came, when they provoked the
Daemons under
Virtuebane. They massacred all of the inhabitants, with exception of humble
Katrina, enslaving their spirits, and destroyed the city.
Note that several people escaped the destruction of old Magincia and could be found in places like Vesper.
The Avatar visited the ruins in Ultima IV. Afterwards, the dead were put to rest, and humble New Magincia was erected upon the ruins.
