Silver Horn

From Editable Codex

Jump to: navigation, search

Note: There could be TWO Silver Horns in Ultima. Whether the horn that appears in Ultima IV is the same as the one in Ultima VI and Ultima VII and Ultima IX is purely speculative. If IX is ignored completely (which, considering how much Ultima lore it screws up, it should be), it can easily be assumed that the Horn in VI and VII are the same while the one in IV is different.

[edit] The Silver Horn in Ultima IV

In Ultima IV, the Silver Horn is found by the Stranger on a small island south of Spiritwood. The horn has the power to stop Daemons in their tracks. The Shrine of Humility is overrun by Daemons in this game, but by using the Silver Horn the Stranger is able to bypass them and meditate at the Shrine. Although it is possible to reach the shrine without the Silver Horn, it's incredibly time consuming due to the sheer number of times the party will be attacked.

[edit] The Silver Horn in Ultima VI

The (or 'a') Silver Horn next appears in the Underworld in the possession of the Gargoyles. When blown, it summons Silver Serpents. The horn plays no significant part in the game itself.

[edit] The Silver Horn in Ultima VII

In Ultima VII, the horn had been relocated to the Museum of Britain. It is stated in the game that this is the same horn that appeared in Ultima VI, though it has lost its power of summoning Silver Serpents.

[edit] The Silver Horn in Ultima IX

It was still in the Museum in Ultima IX, but now it was again said to banish Daemons, and had changed radically in appearance.

[edit] Trivia

  • As said above, the designers never exactly knew what to do with the horn. But it's funny to see how the designers screwed up the appearance "Silver Horn" in Ultima IX. It shrunk down, looked like a post horn now, and even was only painted on the ground!
