These criminals actually try everything to go out of the way of a direct confrontation. They prefer to steal from people when they won't notice, or break into houses when the owners are not at home. However, should a Thief be caught in the act, he will most likely run away rather than trying to defend himself with a weapon.

Thieves seek throughout the cities.

• Stefano in Moonshade in Ultima VII/2 is a classical Thief, who got thrown into the Mountains of Freedom. Once escaped with the help of the Avatar, it's likely that he resumed his career in stealing.
